CleanChain: 2019 Supply Chain Sustainability Journeys Banner Image

In 2019, CleanChain™, an ADEC Innovation, experienced impressive levels of growth, and now helps more brands and suppliers work towards cleaner chemistry than ever before. The platform passed a number of milestones in the past year, in terms of international networking and community building as well as growth. Here are some of CleanChain’s most notable achievements from the past 12 months.

CleanChain is an application designed to increase long-term profitability throughout supply chains by demonstrating and improving sustainable business practices and processes. CleanChain provides a secure, central solution for suppliers to more effectively run their businesses and be rewarded for doing so. It also gives brands the means to engage with their supply chain, and gain visibility and insight into chemical use throughout their supply chain.

A Growing Platform

Many brands, suppliers, and other stakeholders joined the CleanChain community in 2019. The number of registered users on the platform more than doubled during the year, reaching over 1,600 users. Going into 2020, our team is working with 11 major brands and retailers, which together represent more than 10% of the global fashion market. More than 500 of the suppliers and manufacturers that supply those brands are also registered on the platform.

More and more industry players are finding that CleanChain is a useful tool to help them reach their sustainability goals. Our library has grown, and the number of chemical formulations registered more than doubled since 2018, climbing past 128,000 total products from more than 4,000 different participating formulators.

Worldwide Collaboration

CleanChain’s growth has not just been reflected in raw numbers – the geographical extent of the platform’s use has grown as well. Since the start of 2019, the CleanChain community has grown to span nearly 50 countries around the world. Towards the end of the year, ADEC Innovations also collaborated with ZDHC and participating brands on the first-ever tour of Asia, running workshops at conferences in Dhaka, Seoul, Taipei, and Shanghai.

Community and Communication

2019 also saw a number of CleanChain projects dedicated to improving the experience for our community of users. The CleanChain Learning Center, a resource dedicated to helping our community get the answers they need about the platform and about the wider issues around green chemistry, was established this year. ADEC Innovations also founded ‘Leading Supply Chain Transparency’, a LinkedIn group dedicated to sharing and discussing sustainable supply chain news. In addition, ADEC Innovations published two white papers during the year that focused explicitly on the issues that CleanChain is built to address: ‘How Textile and Apparel Suppliers Promote and Validate Safer Chemistry’ and ‘How Brands Can Message Green Chemistry to the Consumer’. Throughout 2019, our team has been continually looking for ways to encourage conversation around how we as an industry can reduce our impact on the environment, foster better supply chain relationships, and improve overall sustainability.

2019 was a key year for CleanChain. Thanks to its continued growth and the success of new initiatives on and off the platform, CleanChain is in a better position than ever to grow its community, foster supply chain relationships across the industry, and help the fashion industry use cleaner, greener chemistry.
