A sustainable future depends on the long-term conservation of our natural environment. To continue to address environmental sustainability issues on a global scale, FirstCarbon Solutions (FCS) has opened a new office in Nairobi, Kenya. The new African headquarters will allow FCS to offer solutions and services to organizations throughout the continent that want to run their business more efficiently, profitably and sustainably.
According to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, indicators of overall sustainability—encompassing economic, environmental and institutional dimensions—show that African economies are less sustainable today than they were 25 years ago. At the end of 2000, more than half the population of the 38 countries assessed lived in economies with low overall sustainability. The FCS global team will provide support across Africa facing these unique sustainability challenges through a variety of services, including: environmental planning, resource management, environmental and energy management, supply chain and life cycle assessments, and program management and infrastructure.
Sustainable growth in emerging African economies is central to creating a healthier future for the region. Leveraging technical expertise in professional services, software and business process outsourcing (BPO), FCS will provide end-to-end solutions to allow African businesses and governmental organizations alike to make real progress, reduce costs, improve operational efficiencies and optimize resources. Viewed as the next BPO center, Kenya was strategically chosen due to the country’s ongoing investments in its workforce and infrastructure.
In accordance with the new location, FCS is participating in the Global South-South Development Expo (GSSD) 2013, an event designed as an effort to help the global South realize its shared aspirations for achieving sustainable and equitable development through the sharing and transfer of Southern-grown development solutions (SDSs). FCS will be showcasing their environmental projects and results with public and private organizations around the globe. The event is the first of its kind to ever Expo solely from the South for the South, and constitutes one of the UN Office’s three global and United Nations system-wide South-South support platforms. Hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme, the GSSD Expo’s overarching theme, “Building Inclusive Green Economies: South-South Cooperation for Sustainable Development and Poverty Eradication” is aligned with FCS’ sustainability goals worldwide.
The GSSD will be held at the United Nations Office at Nairobi from 28 October to 01 November, 2013. For more information on the event, please visit: http://www.southsouthexpo.org/.
